WORKING FOR OUR CHILDREN

Our Governors

Welcome from the Chair of Governors

Mr Mark Hilton is our newly appointed Chair of Governors.

I am delighted to take up my new role as Chair of Governors at Spire Junior School. I have been a Governor at Spire since November 2017, and I was appointed as Chair in November 2022. I have previously chaired the finance committee for the school, as well as being the link governor for several subjects over the last few years.

My background has largely been in transport & distribution which I have done for nearly 15 years. Previous to that, I held management positions within the hospitality industry. In my spare time, I also referee in local grassroots football leagues. These roles bring me plenty of transferable skills and knowledge to help with my role at the school.

Being part of this governing body enables me to see, encourage and guide the school in all the amazing things that it is trying to achieve - both now and in the future, for all our pupils, staff and wider community. If you would like to get in touch with me directly, please use the contact email address below.

Vision Statement

Spire Junior School has a very good reputation and the Governing Body plan to build and enhance this.

Our vision is to provide all of our children at Spire Junior School with an outstanding education. We aim to promote every child’s social, moral, spiritual and cultural development. We aim for excellence in academic achievement but also highly value experiences in sports, arts and other cultural opportunities. We ensure that learning is fun.

We aim to:

  • Develop the Governing Body to provide more challenge, rigour and strategic support to the Head teacher and the School.
  • Develop a more visible and transparent style of governorship within the school community.
  • Build sustainable and supportive relationships between governors and school staff.
  • Improve our year on year attainment levels.
  • To support the Head Teacher and the school in moving from a Good school to an outstanding school.

Our Governing Body is made up of a cross section of local people including Parents who freely volunteer their time. We meet at least six times a year to discuss a wide range of school issues. There are a number of areas of specific responsibility, which have allocated Lead Governors. In addition, every Governor is connected to a subject.
